Counselling & Psychotherapy

I hold a doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy from the University of Toronto. My dissertation examined differences in partners’ perceptions of therapist responsiveness within couples therapy, and whether these differences are gendered. I have extensive training in couples therapy with a focus on helping couples improve communication, connection, and intimacy.

I work from an Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) approach. EFT focuses on emotion as the root of distress. The idea is that we cannot bargain or negotiate for love and connection - these are emotional, not intellectual, responses. EFT looks beyond surface behaviour to understand and reveal the emotions that underlie and drive that behaviour. EFT assumes conflict happens when couples get caught in negative patterns (“the cycle”). I will help you identify your cycle and work with you to create a new, more satisfying way of dancing together.
